This year ' s landfill courtesy passes were mailed to sanitation customers in January . Some of the postcards were damaged during the mailing process , which made it so customers aren’t able to read the instructions on the pass . Ryan Pleasantstook place last week . The Walla Walla Fire Department would like to thank each and every resident who has encouraged their staff during this difficult time , from giving a card or hug to participating in the
procession through townon Saturday .
City crews completed another successful snow - plowing event in January . This would not be possible without great teamwork and 24 - hour operations on two consecutive weekends . Thanks to the snow - removal crew consisting of team members from Streets , Water , Engineering , Landfill , Development Services , and Parks and Recreation , with the Communications Division assisting by pushing out
regular updatesto the community .
City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain and City Council member Rick Eskil were in Olympia this week for Walla Walla ' s annual legislative trip , meeting with legislators to discuss the City ' s
priorities— the status of Highway 12 Phase 8; a legislative change that would allow cities such as Walla Walla and College Place to share certain sales and use taxes through an interlocal agreement; and affordable housing and homelessness .
Walla Walla ' s Recreation staff have put together a bunch of great programs for residents , including the Father - Daughter Ball , Mother - Son Superhero Bash ( shown here ) , Spring Training Youth Baseball Camp , Youth Fencing , Youth Volleyball , Youth Lacrosse , Blue Mountain Girls Softball , fitness classes , and much more . This year ' s Youth Indoor Soccer League kicked off in January , with 359 players on 39 teams . The program takes place at local gyms , and will continue through Feb . 24 .

Walla Walla Public Library staff are inviting the community to join them this Saturday , Feb . 3 , for #TakeYourChildtotheLibraryDay , a day to celebrate the special role of libraries in the lives of our youths . The Walla Walla Symphony ' s Travelling Instrument Petting Zoo will be there from 10 a . m . to noon; Chess Club Drop - In/Meet - Up will be all day; and , of course , lots of great books , learning toys and games , digital literacy resources , and more — all free and open to the public . A popular favorite with kids and parents , Big Feelings Yoga has returned to the library every
Wednesday at 3 p . m . One of the City ' s many great community partnerships , instructor Jen Crane leads kids in soothing yoga movements and a discussion of feelings tied to the weekly story .

Wednesday afternoon
. the library hosts ArtSpace , with supplies and space for creative exploration using pencils , pens , paper , and paint . Last week , families and youth created “mini masterpieces , ” a small selection of which are featured on display at the library .
In January , the library hosted its first showing of Arthouse Movies , free and open to the public and selected from the Kanopy streaming streaming service .
Kanopy
, which is free to anyone with a library card , highlights independent filmmakers , documentaries , foreign language , and experimental films , along with a rotating selection of popular titles . Arthouse Movies runs from
5 - 7 p . m . every second Tuesdayat the library; no library card is necessary to attend , but signing up gives patrons access to the full Kanopy service .

Sounds Like Fun!
, an annual free concert of the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival . Attendees enjoyed music inspired by the works of Picasso , with backgrounds and explanations of each piece by Tim Christie , festival founder and Executive and Artistic Director ( standing in the white sweater above ) .
Two new officers ( shown here with Chief Chris Buttice ) joined the Walla Walla Police Department in January: Rey Robledo ( left ) and James Brauer ( right ) started Jan . 2 and are now attending Police Academy in Spokane .
The Engineering team recently was awarded grants for two pavement preservation projects , both slated for construction in 2026: $1 , 400 , 000 for Alder Street – Roosevelt to Brock and Tausick Way – Alder Street to US 12; and $1 , 725 , 000 for Alder Street – Brock to Tausick Way . Preservation helps to prevent pavement damage and extends the roadway lifespan from 5 - 15 additional years . Two major pavement preservation projects — on Rose Street and on 2nd Avenue — are among the
construction projects scheduled for this year

A John Deere tractor belonging to the Parks and Recreation Department was stolen from a secured yard at Pioneer Park on Jan . 23 or Jan . 24 . Staff posted a picture and information on social media , and the department soon received a call from a Umatilla County deputy who had recovered it . Staff now have the tractor back in their possession , and it appears there is no major damage to it .
Providence Population Health , Greater Health Now , the Walla Walla Housing Authority , and Walla Walla Public Schools are partnering to host a Community Resource Fair from 3 - 6 p . m . on Feb . 14 . At the free event , community agencies and organizations will share information about the services they provide for residents .
On Jan . 25 , City of Walla Walla Human Resources staffers Julissa and Elizabeth attended the Walla Walla Community College Career Fair , which was attended by more than 170 students .
