Preliminary Narrative
   : On Thursday , February 22 , 2024 , shortly before 4:30 a . m . , AFRD was dispatched to the 1900 block of  Morehouse Drive NW after reports of a structure fire with entrapment . On arrival , firefighters encountered a woman screaming , saying a male remained in the home . Firefighters entered the home through a rear door and located an approximately 65 - year - old male unconscious in a bathroom with second - and third - degree burns to his legs . Firefighters removed the victim from the home and initiated medical care , including CPR . Grady EMS , along with a firefighter , transported the patient to the Grady Emergency Room for additional medical attention . After extensive life - saving measures , the patient was pronounced deceased at the hospital .
   Firefighters on the scene conducted an offensive fire attack to extinguish the blaze . There were no additional injuries at the scene , and the fire is under investigation .
