Jasper Ridge Prescribed Fire Begins Mar - 7 - 2024
Did you notice the large amount of fuel reduction work by Stanford during the fall? Dead and dying vegetation were removed 100 - 300 feet along the Sand Hill Road perimeter of the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve , and many eucalyptus trees were removed along Arastradero . Both efforts significantly improved our evacuation routes for Portola Valley .
In addition , Stanford created shaded or complete fuel breaks inside the Preserve along the Westridge border . In areas where debris could not be chipped , they created piles . Starting the week of Mar - 4 - 2024 , these piles will be reduced with prescribed fire ( aka a controlled burn or pile burn ) . See Stanford’s description of the project
here
. Stanford can be contacted
here
.
If you have questions about the burn , please join us at the
Feb - 21 - 2024 WPC meetingWed at 4:00 PM for Kim Giuliacci’s Fire Marshal Update . Stanford will also be represented .
