As a government entity best practice , the Town of Vail has obtained the rights to use
vail . govas its new domain . The Town has switched its website URL from
vailgov . comto
vail . govin a transition that should be seamless for users . Last fall , the town updated email address formats from

xxx@vail . govin preparation for the website change .
Benefits to being a . gov domain include allowing the public to easily identify an official website , and to have confidence the information on the site or the email that hits their inbox is genuine . The change is being adopted by governments around the country to promote security , transparency and trust .
CISA , the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency , sponsors the . gov top - level domain and makes it available solely to U . S . - based government organizations and publicly controlled entities . For those that qualify for a . gov domain , it’s available without a fee .
