Glastonbury , CT – On Sunday , February 25 , 2024 , Glastonbury Police responded to a call at the Academy Building , 2143 Main Street , where a local Gymnastics Meet was being hosted by Glastonbury Parks & Recreation . During the Meet , an incident occurred between two adult males who knew each other . The incident occurred inside the Academy Building , but outside of the Gymnastics Meet . At first sign of the incident , program staff acted quickly to notify Police and to deter children from the area . Police arrived within minutes of being called and located the victim , who had been stabbed during the altercation . The suspect fled the scene , but later turned himself in . He has since been arrested and is being held on bond . The victim was brought to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is reportedly now in recovery . As a result of the incident , the Meet was cancelled .
   According to a statement released by the Glastonbury Police Department , this was an isolated incident between two individuals who knew one another . The Academy Building facility has been thoroughly cleaned and deemed safe , and remains open for standard programming .
   Town staff from Glastonbury Youth & Family Services , Police , and Parks & Recreation are working to provide support services and resources for staff , volunteers , and citizens who have been impacted by the incident .
   “I am grateful to the Police and the gymnastics program staff for responding swiftly and effectively to this unfortunate incident , which appears to be an isolated event between two non - residents . Glastonbury Youth & Family Services staff have already begun providing support to the local families involved in the gymnastics program . The Academy Building has been cleaned and deemed safe , therefore programming will continue as scheduled , ” said Glastonbury Town Manager Jonathan Luiz .
