A 45 - year - old woman has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol . On Dec . 28 at approximately 11:10 p . m . , the James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to the 7 - Eleven at 1800 Jamestown Road in Williamsburg . Officers began investigating as medics attended to a victim who sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle that was not at the scene . Witness accounts and surveillance footage revealed the incident began as a verbal altercation between the victim and a woman in the 7 - Eleven parking lot . The woman , identified as Danita Martin , entered a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado , backed into and ran over the victim , and fled the scene . The victim and Martin are known to each other and arrived at the convenience store together .
   As the victim was being treated for their injuries , police located the Silverado within twenty minutes of the incident at the Jamestown Settlement parking lot . A DUI investigation was conducted with Martin , the sole occupant of the vehicle , leading to her arrest and subsequent charges , including Driving Under the Influence , Maiming due to DUI , and Felony Hit - and - Run Resulting in Injury .
   Danita Martin , a 45 - year - old resident of Surry County , was taken to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and denied bond . The vehicle involved in the incident was impounded . The victim sustained significant injuries and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News; their current condition remains undisclosed . The investigation is active , and additional charges may be brought forward at a later date .
