President Biden ' s budget for Fiscal Year 2025 reinforces his commitment to addressing climate , energy , environmental , and nuclear security challenges through transformative science and technological solutions . The budget aims to lower costs for working families , protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare , invest in America and its people , and reduce the deficit by cracking down on fraud and cutting wasteful spending . The Department of Energy ' s budget makes historic investments to lay the foundation for a clean and equitable energy economy and achieve net - zero emissions by 2050 . It aims to make the United States the leading nation for clean energy investments , supporting clean energy workforce and infrastructure projects across the nation . These investments create good - paying jobs and contribute to the Administration ' s climate goals . The budget also ensures that investments benefit communities that have been left behind . The Office of State and Community Energy Programs is allocating $385 million for the Weatherization Assistance Program to make low - income homes more energy - efficient . This program partners with local contractors to improve home performance , creating jobs and reducing energy costs for vulnerable families . Additionally , the State Energy Program is requesting $70 million for technical assistance to enhance energy security and affordability . These funds would support around 40 , 000 energy retrofits for low - income households . We ' re also investing in safe and effective nuclear stockpiles , reducing global nuclear threats , and modernizing our facilities . We ' re enhancing our capabilities to prevent and respond to WMD terrorist attacks , and improving nuclear and radioactive material security . Additionally , we ' re investing in arms control technologies and experts to address emerging national security risks .
