The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened just before 5 p . m . Monday , May 23 , 2022 , in the City of Sarasota .   Officers responded to a vehicle versus a semi - truck near the intersection of University Parkway and North Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ) .
   A driver of a SUV , an adult woman , was driving southbound on N Tamiami Trl , when for unknown reasons her car crashed into the back of a semi - truck .   The woman died on the scene as a result of her injuries .   The driver of the semi - truck , an adult man , stayed on the scene and was cooperative with officers .  
   The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit , Victim Advocate and Criminalistics Unit responded to the scene .   The intersection of University Parkway and N Tamiami Trl was closed for several hours for the investigation .   It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash .   The crash is under investigation by the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit .
