San Clemente Shoreline Sand Replenishment Project Update
January 24 , 2024… San Clemente , California… . The U . S . Army Corps of Engineers ( USACE ) has advised the City that it is evaluating a range of options for resuming the delivery of sand to the City . Dredging operations began on December 21 . Approximately 10 loads were delivered by the Contractor and were comprised mostly of cobble , gravels , and shell fragments with some sand . Operations in the City were halted by the Contractor on January 9 , 2023 .
The USACE shares the City’s concerns regarding the quality of the material that was delivered to San Clemente . The USACE is considering a range of options and action plans for proceeding and is currently evaluating the pros and cons of each option . The USACE is also enlisting the support of its technical experts at the Engineer Research and Development Center ( ERDC ) to optimize a path forward for the City of San Clemente .
