DURHAM , NC ( Friday , January 19 , 2024 ) – Just before 2:30 a . m . a deputy on patrol in Research Triangle Park responded to the intersection of TW Alexander Dr . near Cornwallis Rd . There they observed a Dodge Challenger on the side of the road that had been involved in a single - vehicle accident .   The occupants of the vehicle stated they’d been traveling on TW Alexander Dr . when an unidentified vehicle began to fire at them , causing them to crash .   The driver and front seat passenger received gunshot wounds to the upper body and were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non - life - threatening injuries . The rear passenger was not injured .  
   This incident remains under investigation .  Additional information will be released at the appropriate time .
