DURHAM , N . C . – Due to the
extended power outageimpacting thousands of Duke Energy customers in East Durham , the
Durham City - County Emergency Management Departmentis opening an emergency shelter later today .
The shelter’s location is at the old Northern High School , located at 117 Tom Wilkinson Rd . This emergency shelter will open at 8 p . m . and will remain open until power is restored .
Food and sleeping cots will be provided for up to 150 residents in need . Residents should bring any medications and other personal clothing and hygiene items needed during their stay .
GoDurhamwill provide free transportation to the emergency shelter from their Wellons Village bus stop .
The Durham County Main Library , located at 300 N . Roxboro St . , will operate as a warming center until 8 p . m . today . The following regional library branches will operate as warming centers until 6 p . m . today:
East Regional Branch , 211 Lick Creek Ln .
North Regional Branch , 221 Milton Rd .
South Regional Branch , 4505 S . Alston Ave .
Southwest Regional Branch , 605 Shannon Rd .
Residents who need food today are encouraged to contact
