☷Repeat Felon on Community Corrections Sentenced to Nearly Five Years in Federal Prison for Selling Firearms Via Facebook

Deshawn Washington , a 22 - year - old from Indianapolis , has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms as a felon . Detectives searched his home on the far East side of Indianapolis after finding Facebook messages where he arranged to sell firearms under an alias . Washington was caught with a Glock 43 handgun and an AR - variant pistol just 25 days after being released from jail . Despite previous felony convictions , he continued to possess and sell guns . U . S . Attorney Zachary A . Myers and ATF Special Agent Daryl S . McCormick emphasized the dangers of armed felons and illegal gun trafficking in communities . This is the kind of case that ATF and the ICGTF look into , and we ' ll keep working to get rid of the people pulling the triggers and those giving them the guns . ATF and the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force checked out this case . The sentence was given by Judge James R . Sweeney II . Judge Sweeney also ordered that Washington be supervised by the U . S . Probation Office for three years after he gets out of federal prison . U . S . Attorney Myers thanked Assistant U . S . Attorney Pamela S . Domash for handling this case . This case was brought as part of the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force ( ICGTF ) . ICGTF is a team of law enforcement officers and analysts from various law enforcement agencies in central Indiana . They work together with state , local , and federal partners to tackle violent crime by using innovative methods to find suspects and evidence related to violent crimes and illegal possession of firearms . This case is also part of Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , a program that brings law enforcement and communities together to reduce violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer . On May 26 , 2021 , the Department of Justice launched a strategy to reduce violent crime based on these core principles: building trust and legitimacy in our communities , supporting community - based organizations that prevent violence , setting focused enforcement priorities , and measuring the results .
