After decades of volunteerism at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca , Bill Reichmuth passed away leaving behind a legacy of enthusiasm and expertise . Bill was deeply passionate about Laguna Seca not only for the thrill of the races , but as a past president of the Laguna Seca Raceway Foundation ( LSRF ) and previous president of the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula ( SCRAMP ) .
Bill was a lifelong Porsche enthusiast and became interested in Laguna Seca in the ‘80s , when the SCRAMP board quickly tapped him for his expertise . He was an active participant and served on a variety of committees before becoming the organization’s president in 1998 .
Bill will be remembered for his sincerity and thoughtful recognition of others . In becoming president , Bill offered his promise: “Our goal for the 1998 season is to be able to distribute more than the $530 , 000 we distributed last year to the youth and civic groups that help make everything happen at Laguna Seca Raceway , " said Bill . "A lot of lives have been made better because , year after year , we have been able to attract top racing series and huge crowds of spectators to the track . The positive impact of our events is what is really important and it’s why so many people in the community have volunteered their time and talents for over 40 years to make events successful . "
Showing a lifelong commitment to the betterment of Monterey , Bill served as Executive Director of the Transportation Association of Monterey County , Public Works Director for the City of Monterey and eventually as Deputy City Manager . His knowledge of government and a yearning desire to contribute to the benefit of Monterey County residents was valued by everyone who worked alongside him .
He later used his experience and keen insight as a board member of the non - profit Laguna Seca Raceway Foundation , where he selflessly continued his commitment to Laguna Seca and the community .
Laguna Seca Volunteer Association Chairman Lee Ames has known and respected Bill for years . “When I first became a SCRAMP Director Bill ' s sage advice and insight was invaluable to me . He never hesitated to offer me help , even though he was not actively a member of the association any more . His dedication to SCRAMP , Laguna Seca and the community was something that we all can aspire to honor . He was a true treasure and will be deeply missed . ”
