Monterey County California - San Francisco Man Found Guilty Of First Degree Murder Attempted Murder And Being A Felon In Possession Of A Firearm 02 February 2024 ( news )

SALINAS
, California - Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M . Pacioni announced that San Francisco resident Anthony Michael Jacinto , age 36 , was found guilty by jury today of the first - degree murder of Ismael “Angel” Ledesma with an enhancement for discharging a firearm causing death , the attempted murder of Kristy Casanova , and being a felon in possession of a firearm . The jury also found true enhancements that the defendant caused great bodily injury and used a deadly or dangerous weapon in the commission of the attempted murder .
On June 26 , 2023 , at approximately 12:31am , the defendant went to the tent where Angel Ledesma lived in Salinas . The defendant fired eight rounds from an untraceable semi - automatic pistol , striking Mr . Ledesma in the back . The defendant than fled on foot . Mr . Ledesma died about an hour later at Natividad Medical Center . The defendant was identified as the shooter through forensic evidence including DNA recovered from the murder weapon , fired cartridge casings , surveillance video , and his cell phone records . Evidence supported the inference that this was a pre - planned execution .
At 7:00pm that same day , the defendant went to the home of his girlfriend’s aunt , Kristy Casanova , also in Salinas . There , while eating dinner they provided him , he picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Ms . Casanova in the abdomen . He held the knife in her abdomen for twenty seconds , then fled the scene . Ms . Casanova died on the way to the Natividad Medical Center but was revived thanks to the heroic efforts of trauma surgeon Dr . Nicholas Rottler .
The defendant has a prior conviction of out Nevada for an armed robbery . If found true , at sentencing he faces 104 years , 4 months to life in prison .
This case was investigated by the Salinas Police Department , specifically Detective John Richardson and Officers Oscar Solis and Dionna Lucas . District Attorney Investigator Jose Lopez conducted follow up investigation . The victims and family members were supported by many members of the Victim Advocate Unit .
