Lakewood Avenue Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project Construction Look Ahead – Upcoming Road Closures

Lakewood Avenue will remain closed with detours between Duke Street and Blackwell Street , and between Mangum Street and Roxboro Street to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installations . In mid - December , Lakewood Ave between Duke Street and Blackwell Street is anticipated to re - open while the closure area shifts to Lakewood Avenue between Blackwell Street and Mangum Street .
Roxboro Street will have continued lane closures between Hillside Ave and Morehead Ave for approximately 4 to 5 months to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installations .

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:
Week of 12/11:
Varying road closures in Lakewood Avenue between Duke Street and Blackwell Street , Blackwell Street and Mangum Street , and between Mangum Street and Roxboro Street .
Lane shifts in Roxboro Street between Hillside Avenue and Morehead Avenue .
Week of 12/18:
Road closure in Lakewood Avenue between Blackwell Street and Roxboro Street .
Lane shifts in Roxboro Street between Hillside Avenue and Morehead Avenue .
Future Week ( s ) :
Road closure in Lakewood Avenue between Blackwell Street and Roxboro Street .
The Roxboro Street lane shifts are anticipated to remain in place for approximately 4 - 5 months .
Bicycle Lane and Sidewalk impacts will occur as follows:
Portions of the sidewalk along Lakewood Ave between Duke Street and Roxboro Street will have temporary closures .
Portions of the sidewalk near work areas along Roxboro Street will have temporary closures .
Saturday and Sunday – December 9 - 10 , 2023:
No work is planned .
Week of December 11 , 2023:
Lakewood Avenue will be closed between Duke St and Blackwell St to accommodate sanitary sewer installation .
Flaggers will be used to maintain traffic while sewer installation takes place in the Blackwell / Lakewood intersection .
Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the detour of traffic along Lakewood Avenue .
Northbound traffic will be detoured using Duke St , Morehead Ave , and the Mangum Roxboro Connector .
Southbound traffic will be detoured using Roxboro St , Jackie Robinson Dr , Blackwell St , Morehead Ave , and Vickers Ave .
Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted in this area .
Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours .
Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM .
No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated .
Late this week or during the following week , the current Lakewood Avenue closure between Duke St and Blackwell St will shift to between Blackwell St and Mangum St to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation .
Lakewood Avenue between Duke Street and Blackwell Street will re - open to traffic .
Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the detour of traffic along Lakewood Avenue .
Northbound traffic will be detoured using Blackwell St , Morehead Ave , and the Mangum Roxboro Connector .
Southbound traffic will be detoured using Roxboro St , Jackie Robinson Dr , and Blackwell St .
Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted in this area .

Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted in this area .
Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours .
Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM .
No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated .
Saturday and Sunday – December 16 - 17 , 2023:
No work is planned .
Week of December 18 , 2023:
Lakewood Avenue will be closed between Blackwell St and Roxboro Street to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation .
Lakewood Avenue between Duke Street and Blackwell Street will re - open to traffic .
Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the detour of traffic along Lakewood Avenue .
Northbound traffic will be detoured using Duke St , Morehead Ave , and the Mangum Roxboro Connector . Local access to Blackwell St will resume .
Southbound traffic will be detoured using Roxboro St , Jackie Robinson Dr , and Blackwell St .
Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted in this area .
Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours .
Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM .
No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated .

Lakewood Avenue between Blackwell St and Mangum St will remain closed for approximately 1 to 2 months to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation .
Lakewood Avenue between Mangum St and Roxboro St will remain closed for approximately 2 to 3 months to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation .
Roxboro Street lane shifts will remain in place for 4 to 5 months to accommodate sanitary sewer and waterline installation .
