The Moscow Police Department is now hiring for two (2) Police Captain positions. Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the Police Captains plan, organize, control, and direct the activities of an assigned division of the police department. These positions may serve as the Acting Chief in the absence of the Chief of Police. These positions are open to internal and external candidates.

Application Process
Applicants must provide the following items which will be scored during the testing process:
Letter of Interest
– A written letter outlining how the applicant meets eligibility requirements. An explanation of desire for obtaining the position including the reason(s) why. The letter is to be 12 font, double spaced and limited to one (1) page.

Resume
– A resume detailing the applicant’s work and educational/ training history, experience and professional accomplishments to include certifications, awards, etc. The resume may be in any format but shall not exceed two (2) pages.
Performance Evaluation
– Applicants are to provide their most recent full performance evaluation.

Testing Process/Components
The testing process will consist of the following:
Written Exercises / Presentations
– The application packet will contain one written exercise for each candidate to complete prior to their scheduled testing day. On the day of testing, the applicant will provide the Promotion Board four copies of this exercise. The applicant will be given no more than fifteen (15) minutes to give a presentation on this exercise to the Promotion Board prior to their oral interview. A second written exercise will be given to each applicant on testing day to be completed within one (1) hour. Instructions on the second written exercise will be given on the day of testing which may include a presentation component which will not exceed ten (10) minutes in length.
In-Box Exercise
– Applicants will receive instructions on completing this exercise on testing day.
Oral Interview
– Interview by the Oral Board regarding your adaptability and suitability to function in the assignment and personal motivation for this assignment. The Promotion Board will be appointed by the Chief of Police and will include professionals from within as well as outside the Moscow Police Department.
Chief’s Interview -
The Chief of Police has the discretion to conduct personal interviews with the top candidates prior to making the selection(s).
