BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
:
Under the supervision of the Building Official, performs a variety of technical permitting functions on behalf of City of Paris Community Development Department; provides customer service to the public; processes permit applications; and performs other related duties. There is on-the-job-training provided for this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responds to routine permitting inquires and provides customer service to the public at the permit counter and via telephone, email, and/or facsimile. Provides general information to the public regarding permitting processes, zoning, and land use actions. Speaks with customers and assesses their scope of work to provide all information needed to help customers meet their needs while maintaining City standards. Receives and processes various types of permit applications; reviews applications for accuracy and completeness. Creates permit files and distributes applications for review; updates and maintains permitting records; tracks and reports on permit activity. Determines, collects, and receipts permit fees. Researches and communicates the status of permits to applicants. Effectively evaluate, coordinate and organize workload in order to prioritize work. Participates and provides input with staff and supervisors concerning new or changing processes and systems. Receives and schedules inspection/cancellation requests made in person or taken from voice messaging and enters into permitting software and/or notifies inspectors. Contact utility companies to release utilities when approved by the inspector and maintain records for such and other duties as assigned.
