The City of Mount Airy Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an applicant for a Parks and Recreation Summer Internship. The position will involve the applicant in various program areas within the Parks and Recreation Department and improve the services provided in various components of our organization. This position will involve the development, implementation, supervision and assessment of a variety of recreation programs including Aquatics, Athletics, Family Services/Childcare, Health & Wellness, Administration and Grounds Maintenance. Specific duties may include leading summer day camp activities, sports camps, special events, facility supervision, grounds maintenance, front desk customer service, administration and health & wellness programs. The applicant must be able to work varying shifts including days, evenings and weekends. This position will be a 40 hour a week position for up to 12 weeks. The applicant must be seeking school credit or experience in Parks and Recreation or a similar field. The salary for this position is $15.00/hour.
Qualifications:
Candidate must be at least 18 years of age and seeking school credit or is interested in a career in the field of Parks & Recreation.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with other employees and the public.
Must be able to perform tasks in an unsupervised setting.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to drive a City Vehicle, pass a background check and drug screening.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn and lead in several capacities within the department to prepare them for a career in Parks & Recreation along with building their resume, references and connections for future opportunities. A free gym membership at Reeves Community Center will also be available during the internship.
