Col . T . Galbadrakh from the Mongolian Armed Forces popped by the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies in Alaska on February 14 to chat about boosting international security cooperation . Randy Kee and the TSC crew gave him a warm welcome . This visit , part of the Department of Defense National Guard Bureau State Partnership Program , shows how important these partnerships are for global security . The SPP started 30 years ago and now includes 88 partnerships with 100 countries . Alaska and Mongolia joined forces under the SPP in 2003 , setting the stage for ongoing collaboration in defense and security . The TSC and Galbadrakh discussed ways to offer educational opportunities to Mongolian Armed Forces members and tackle current security issues . The TSC focuses on Arctic security research and offers courses to countries with Arctic interests to build strong security networks . Even though Mongolia isn ' t in the Arctic , their partnership with the US shows a mutual desire for regional stability . This visit was just the beginning of involving the Mongolian Armed Forces in the TSC ' s programs , with a nod to their partnership with the Daniel K . Inouye Center for Asia Pacific Security Studies . The Mongolian Armed Forces know about the awesome programs at the Inouye Center , and now they have two DOD regional centers working together in the Pacific and Arctic . Both sides are excited about strengthening their relationship and getting the Mongolian Armed Forces involved in the international security network built by the TSC . Their goal is to improve cooperation in the Arctic with allies and partners , and help maintain a stable and fair system .
