Missoula Public Health seeks feedback on Community Health Assessment
Missoula Public Health ( MPH ) is seeking community feedback on the draft 2017 - 2021 Community Health Assessment ( CHA ) . This document represents a comprehensive review and analysis of MPH , state , and federal data regarding health issues and the needs of individuals and communities throughout Missoula County .
The assessment represents the data , opinions , observations and perspectives of the people who live , work , play and learn in our communities . The information contained in the report can help community partners , residents , businesses and others determine the priority health needs within Missoula County . The assessment highlights how many different factors , such as healthcare access , substance use and the built environment , affect overall individual and community health in Missoula County .
This information can be used for collaboration , planning , grant writing , advocacy and other areas aimed at improving health . The report includes data based on responses to a survey conducted in July 2023 , which was distributed to city and county residents . MPH typically conducts this assessment every five years as part of its national accreditation process , but the pandemic delayed the cycle this time .
This latest assessment includes additions that more fully reflect what factors affect health . These additions include a new section on Race , Ethnicity , and Individual and Systemic Racism: Health Equity . The assessment survey also expanded to ask about impacts of climate change .
View the draft assessment and provide comments until Feb . 27 , 2024 , by visiting the Community Health Assessment page on

What are the commissioners up to?
Below is a summary of recent public meetings , where the commissioners . . .
Increased the number of members of the proposed local government study commission from three to seven .  Earlier this year , the commissioners adopted a resolution that will place a question on the June primary ballot asking voters if they want to conduct a local government review study in 2024 . The state Constitution mandates that this question to assess their form of government be put to the voters every 10 years . If the electorate votes in favor of a review during the June primary , then seven candidates for a study commission would be on the ballot this November . The study commission would then take one year to review and propose any change to local government . Any proposed changes would go back to the electorate again in November 2026 .
Approved a loan agreement between Missoula County and NeighborWorks Montana toward the purchase of the Two Rivers Manufactured Home Park in Lolo . This includes $310 , 000 of CDBG loan fund and $100 , 000 from the Housing Innovation Fund . The 59 - unit Manufactured Home Park will now be resident - owned community and ensure secured housing . This is the first use of the ﷟
Housing Innovation Fund , which the commissioners created in February 2023 . The fund has $750 , 000 , generated from past sales of lots in the Missoula Development Park . The $100 , 000 loan is a 0% interest loan over 10 years , at which point it will be paid back into the HIF .
Approved a 10 - year maintenance and management agreement between Garden City Harvest and Missoula County for a community garden on the northeastern portion of the East Missoula Lion’s Park . ,
Approved $75 , 000 in Parks and Trails Matching Grants to be awarded to Clearwater Park in Seeley Lake , Clinton Community Park , East Missoula Lion’s Park , Lolo Riverside Park , Swan Valley Community Center , upgrades to the little league facilities in Frenchtown and improvements to recreation areas at the Potomac School .
In addition to public meetings , Commissioners Vero and Slotnick visited Sunset Hill Road Bridge in Greenough , Riverview Drive and Boy Scout Road Bridges in Seeley Lake , Glacier Creek and Cold Creek Bridges in Condon with Public Works staff ahead of the submission of federal RAISE grant applications to address repairs on all five bridges .
