This past Monday we had the opportunity to observe Martin Luther King Jr . Day . The lessons of Dr . King remain just as relevant today; and in our own City we strive to be inclusive and to govern with principle . I am often reminded of my favorite quote from Dr . King - “Darkness cannot drive out darkness , only light can do that . Hate cannot drive out hate , only love can do that . ” Dr . King worked to inspire youth and engage people of all ages – and in Calabasas we are proud of the work that our youth are doing .
On February 3rd from 9am - 2pm , the Mayor’s Youth Council and M2 Health present a Body Positivity Fair . This is appropriate for residents of all ages and will have informational workshops , body - positive activities , professional speakers , food and crafts!
The City has done a lot of work on the Las Virgenes Creek and now it ' s your opportunity to see this work up close . On January 27th , join City of Calabasas engineers for a tour of the Las Virgenes Creek to discuss past and future projects as well as a discussion of how our creek relates in the broader context of the North Santa Monica Bay Watershed . The tour will begin with a short ten - minute presentation at the gazebo before beginning the walking portion of the tour along the Las Virgenes Trail to Agoura Road ( 1 . 5 miles one - way ) where the tour will conclude . A City Shuttle will be provided at Agoura Road for those not wishing to walk back . We will meet at 10:00am at the lower Gazebo on Lost Hills Road across from De Anza Park .

Selling things online through eBay , OfferUp , Facebook Marketplace and other online sites has become increasingly popular . At the same time , we continue to hear about scams and , in some instances , even more dangerous activities when people meet a stranger to sell an item . In order to make these exchanges safe , the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station has set up a Safe Exchange Zone in the east side of the station parking lot . If you are making a private party transaction off eBay , OfferUp , Facebook Marketplace , or other sites , please utilize the safety of the Sheriff’s station parking lot to conduct your exchanges .
The Sheriff’s Department has a few safety tips you should keep in mind when buying/selling online:
Always meet in a public place ( such as a police/Sheriff station ) .
Never go to an exchange alone , always bring backup .
Only bring enough money for the purchase .
Try the product first , before buying .
Get proof of the purchase ( written document/receipt ) .
Do not give out your personal information .
Always trust your gut , if something seems off it probably is .
Please remember , when using the Malibu/Lost Hills Station’s Safe Exchange Zone , the deputies cannot act as official witnesses for the transactions . They will not provide legal advice or settle any civil disputes .
A quick reminder – we have our second City of Calabasas Hiring Event tomorrow from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at De Anza Park . The event is for summer jobs … and beyond . We need to bring on recreation attendants and lifeguards and some of these jobs require you to be at least 18 years old . Check out the graphic and scan the QR code for more information .
I wanted to share this opportunity with our graduating high school seniors . Southern California Edison offers an Edison Scholarship . The deadline to apply for the Edison Scholars is January 23rd – that’s next Tuesday . Edison says the scholarships are designed to help students’ passion for making a difference by studying science , technology , engineering and math . Scholarship applications can be found

Have a wonderful weekend .
