Mark your calendars for an inspiring day of action and unity! On Monday , January 15 , 2024 the Livingston Committee for Diversity & Inclusion ( LCDI ) is set to commemorate the enduring legacy of Dr . Martin Luther King Jr . with a vibrant Day of Service . Join us in person at the Livingston Senior/Community Center , 204 Hillside Avenue in Livingston , from 11:00 a . m . to 1:00 p . m . , to participate in hands - on service and craft projects .
The following organizations will be sharing their projects:
Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States – West Essex: Crafting cards for hospitalized children
Kiwanis Club of Livingston: Collecting socks , hats , and gloves , in addition to assembling Care and Comfort kits for the homeless
Livingston Chinese Association: Collecting canned goods
Livingston Health Department: Blood Pressure screenings/health information
Livingston High School Black Student Union: Spoken word presentation honoring the work of Dr . King
Livingston High School Jewelry Club: Crafting jewelry for the Westfield Fun Group
Livingston League of Women Voters: Voter registration and children writing letters to the Township of Livingston’s new Mayor , Al Anthony
Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Making sandwiches and collecting non - perishable food items for the food pantry
Livingston Rotary Club: Crafting cards for seniors at Care One
North NJ Chapter of the National Charity League: Collecting books
Temple Beth Shalom: Collecting items for and assembling soup/chili making kits
Young Men’s Service League: Bone marrow swab drive in honor and memory of Annie Eisner , in connection with Gift of Life Marrow Registry
In addition , all are welcome to join LCDI member Simone Anthony - Brown ( Express Yourself Studios ) for a MLK Day service project that unites our community through art . Be part of a collaborative canvas painting inspired by the teachings of Dr . Martin Luther King Jr . The finished artwork will be displayed at Livingston Town Hall from Monday , January 22 to Thursday , February 29 , 2024 . Come together to honor Dr . King’s legacy through creativity .
The program will end with remarks from Lady Trisha Scipio of the NAACP: Oranges & Maplewood Branch , a musical performance reflecting Dr . King’s hope , and a unity march symbolizing the community’s commitment to a more just and inclusive society .
This day serves as a reminder that Dr . King’s dream of a better world lives on through our collective efforts . Setting aside time to volunteer for the MLK Day of Service offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with your community and pay tribute to Dr . King’s enduring legacy . Each act of kindness towards those in need within our broader community can have a significant impact .
