☷Jury Finds Dayton Men Guilty on All Counts in Case Involving Murder of DEA Task Force Officer

Two Dayton men , Nathan Goddard and Cahke Cortner , were found guilty on all counts in the case involving the 2019 death of Dayton Police Detective and DEA Task Force Officer Jorge DelRio . Goddard , 44 , was convicted of murder , along with multiple narcotics and firearms crimes . Cortner , also 44 , was found guilty of four counts . The verdict was announced today after a trial that began on Feb . 26 . DEA Administrator Anne Milgram and U . S . Attorney Kenneth L . Parker both expressed gratitude for DelRio ' s service and emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators accountable . Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal also welcomed the guilty verdicts , stating that it marks a step towards closure for DelRio ' s loved ones and the community . DEA Detroit Special Agent in Charge Orville O . Greene highlighted the dedication and sacrifice of DelRio in serving the city of Dayton . Goddard was convicted of the murder of a federal law enforcement officer , which carries a potential life sentence . He was also found guilty of multiple federal narcotics crimes , intentionally killing someone during a drug crime , discharging a firearm resulting in murder , illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon , and more , each carrying significant prison terms . Cortner got convicted of two federal drug crimes ( which could mean 10 years to life in prison ) , one for being involved in a drug trafficking crime that led to someone ' s death ( which could mean 20 years to life in prison ) , and one for using a gun while doing a drug trafficking crime . Their co - defendant , Lionel Combs III , who is 45 years old , pleaded guilty right before the trial started for having a place where drugs are kept , which could mean up to 20 years in prison . The Court will decide the sentences for the defendants in future hearings based on guidelines and other factors . Kenneth L . Parker , the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio , Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal , Orville O . Greene , the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA , Cheryl Mimura , the Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Cincinnati Division , Daryl S . McCormick , the Special Agent in Charge of the ATF , and Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr . announced today ' s verdict . U . S . Attorney Parker acknowledged the important help of the Criminal Interdiction Team of Central Oklahoma . Deputy Criminal Chief Brent G . Tabacchi , Assistant U . S . Attorneys Amy M . Smith and Christina E . Mahy , and Special Assistant U . S . Attorney Erin Claypoole from the Montgomery County Prosecutor ' s Office are representing the U . S . in this case .
