Hey , just a heads up from the FBI Atlanta Division , there ' s this phone scam going around where the scammers pretend to be law enforcement or court officers . They ' ll call you up and claim that you didn ' t show up for jury duty , and might even threaten you with legal action or jail time . They ' ll try to get you to pay a fine right then and there , maybe even ask for your payment info or personal details . Sometimes they ' ll ask you to buy a prepaid card too . These scammers can be sneaky - they might give you info about real law enforcement officers or court officials to make it seem legit , and they can even fake their phone number to look like it ' s from a legit source . So if you get a call or email like this , don ' t give out any personal info , credit card numbers , or money . Courts don ' t call up jurors asking for cash or personal info . If you do miss jury duty , you ' ll get a letter in the mail , not a phone call or email . Here are some tips to avoid falling for this scam: always be suspicious of random calls , never give money or personal info to strangers who contacted you first , and trust your gut - if something feels off , hang up . If you ' re still not sure , verify the info with the proper law enforcement agency or court officials . And if you do get a call like this , make sure to report it to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center ( IC3 ) with a description of the caller and any caller ID info you have . Stay safe!
