An Illinois construction contractor is facing proposed fines of $264 , 000 for repeatedly failing to protect employees from dangerous fall hazards . United Custom Homes LLC has been cited by OSHA for the eighth time since 2015 for exposing workers to these risks on a construction site in Naperville . Inspectors witnessed employees working without protective equipment at heights of up to 20 feet on August 23 , 2023 . Falling accidents are a leading cause of fatalities among construction workers , with 423 deaths reported in 2022 . OSHA Chicago South Area Director , Jim Martineck , stated that United Custom Homes has consistently ignored safety regulations and put workers ' lives at risk . The company was cited for various violations , including the failure to provide fall protection equipment or proper training , the improper use of ladders , and the failure to recertify workers in the operation of powered industrial vehicles . This is not the first time the company has been cited , and they currently owe $238 , 572 in unpaid previous OSHA penalties . United Custom Homes has 15 business days to comply with the citations and penalties , request an informal conference , or contest the findings .
