City of Goodyear Arizona - Goodyear Fire Opens Third Station Centered Around Firefighter s Health and Safety 29 February 2024 ( news )

The grand opening ceremony for Goodyear Fire Department station 188 took place on Thursday , February 29
th
. This is the third fire station in Goodyear that includes enhanced cancer - preventing safety measures to ensure our firefighters ' long - term health .
“Public safety is always our top priority , ” said Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo . “I’m very excited about the enhanced level of service this new station will allow us to provide to residents in western Goodyear , as well as the enhancements that will help to protect those who protect the community . ”
The station features the following exposure reducing enhancements:
An improved layout that helps limit the firefighter’s exposer to carcinogens in the living area .
A decontamination washer that thoroughly cleans gear , minimizing exposure to potential contaminants .
An exhaust capturing system that removes hazardous exhaust and provides a healthier working environment .
A clean cab design , keeping structure fire gear and equipment out of the passenger compartment of the fire truck .
“The City of Goodyear prides itself in taking care of our residents and employees , ” said Goodyear Fire Chief Paul Luizzi . “Fire Station 188 continues our efforts to keep firefighters safe whether they are at the station or responding to an incident . We strive to ensure that our firefighters and the citizens are as healthy and safe as possible . ”
Station 188 is located on the northeast corner of Harrison St . and Citrus Rd . and will house an Engine and Hazmat unit . The station will cover the west side of Goodyear which is one of the faster growing areas in the city with more planned developments coming in the next couple of years . The new fire station will include 3 apparatus bays , 9 dormitories , 2 offices , a kitchen , dining area , a physical training room and a 3 - story training tower .
