Golden Valley police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a carjacking May 16 , 2022 , at approximately 11:15 pm , at Breck Ice Arena , 4210 Olson Memorial Hwy , Golden Valley .
The victim said he was walking to his vehicle when a black male wearing a dark - colored ski mask pointed a handgun at him and demanded his car . When the victim attempted to flee , the subject chased him until he fell down in the parking lot . The subject then demanded the victim’s car keys at gunpoint and fled the area in the victim’s Black BMW . The victim wasn’t injured during the incident .
The Golden Valley Police Department put out a metro - wide notification about the carjacking and stolen vehicle to area law enforcement agencies . On May 18 , 2022 Golden Valley police detectives were informed the stolen vehicle was recovered in Minneapolis by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department .
“While this incident appears to be an isolated and random event , our investigators are following up on all leads to apprehend the subject involved , ” said Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green . “We want to remind citizens to be aware of their surroundings at all times at night , park in well - lighted areas , and never attempt to fight back during a robbery . ”
