Dare County Department of Health & Human Services’ Veterans Services Division is pleased to announce a new mental health counseling service available to local Veterans through the Vet Center in Greenville , North Carolina . A service of the U . S . Department of Veterans Affairs , the Greenville Vet Center is one of many small , non - medical counseling centers across the country available exclusively to Veterans .
Vet centers are staffed by highly - trained counselors and team members dedicated to seeing individuals through the challenges that come with managing life during and after the military . Vet Centers are committed to providing confidential help for Veterans , service members , and their families at no cost .
“We encourage any Veteran in Dare County who needs counseling to contact the Vet Center to see if they are eligible for services , ” said Dare County Veterans Services Officer Patty O’Sullivan , noting that individual , family and group counseling is available by appointment and can be held in Dare County . Services include counseling for depression , grief , Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( PTSD ) and the psychological effects of Military Sexual Trauma ( MST ) .
Veterans may be eligible for services regardless of their discharge status or eligibility for VA health care . For more information , or to schedule an appointment , contact Greenville , N . C .
