   Field Work for Business Personal Property Audit Begins Today 2/1/24


   
   Field Work for Saco ' s Business Personal Property Audit begins today , February 1st .
   The City of Saco has hired KRT Appraisal to perform a cyclical data audit of all businesses in the spring of 2024 . A personal property audit consists of a review of taxpayer compliance with the statutory reporting requirements and an assessment of the taxable personal property used in a business . A personal property tax audit includes an interior inspection of every business to list all taxable items such as signage , furniture , computers , machinery , and equipment used for that business . All personal property is listed and assessed in accordance with Maine Statutes Title 36 Chapter 105 .
   Personal property is assessed April 1st of each year . If you own personal property located in Saco on April 1st , you are responsible for the annual taxes even if the business has moved locations or closed . Please inform the Assessing Office if your business is no longer in Saco so that you are not taxed in error .
   As the Data Collectors from KRT visit each business , they will have
   laminated badges and introductory lettersexplaining what the inspection entails . Please keep in mind that if any Data Collector is denied entry to the premises , it will result in a less than accurate estimate . They will make at least two attempts to gain access and will be happy to set up an appointment at your convenience .
