Falcon Field Airport is pleased to officially announce the receipt of a $3 , 767 , 638 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) through the Airport Improvement Program . This grant , awarded on August 7 , 2023 , is allocated for the construction of the East Midfield Crossover Taxiway and the realignment of Taxiways D7 and D8 .
In accordance with City Council Ordinance 5733 , the City Manager is authorized to accept such airport grants on behalf of the City . The comprehensive project entails the establishment of a new high - speed exit crossover taxiway connecting Runway 4L/22R to Taxiway D . Additionally , the relocation of Taxiways 07 and D8 is planned to align with the updated safety standards prescribed by the FAA for airfield geometry .
The overarching goal of this project is to enhance operational efficiency by reducing Runway 4L/22R occupancy time and emissions . This , in turn , will facilitate a more streamlined routing of aircraft from the northern runway complex to the southern infrastructure of the airport .
The total estimated cost for the project , inclusive of construction contingency , is $4 , 502 , 087 . 20 . In conjunction with this , Falcon Field Airport is actively pursuing a matching grant from the Arizona Department of Transportation ( ADOT ) amounting to $184 , 648 . The local contribution to the project , including contingency , is set at $549 , 501 .
