During the spring , many homeowners are busy in their yards starting numerous landscaping projects . When it comes to planning larger - scale projects , such as a new drainage system to the street , Collierville residents need to ask themselves if this requires a construction permit . If the drainage system plan involves a “curb cut” , the answer is yes – it does require a permit . A curb cut is when the curb running along the street is altered by creating a ramp or apron for something such as a driveway , or redirecting water to provide a drainage solution . The Town requires a curb cut permit to ensure the work does not affect the structural integrity of the curb providing a long - term solution with strong , surrounding infrastructure . An inadequate curb cut can be subject to erosion over time , and possibly create more drainage issues in the future .
To apply for a curb cut permit , visit the Building and Codes Division at Collierville Town Hall at 500 Poplar View Parkway . The Building and Codes Division is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm , and you can reach them by phone at ( 901 ) 457 - 2310 .
There is a standard fee of $45 . 50 for all curb cuts , and most projects will require a site map of the lot ( unless an existing curb cut is not going to be altered in size . ) Once the application is received , it will go through an approval process by both a Town Engineer and Building Inspector . After a physical inspection and site approval , the process is complete .
For any questions involving an existing or future curb cut project , contact the Engineering Division at ( 901 ) 457 - 2340 or email Mike Kelly at
