Mayor Adrian Gonzalez and the Weslaco City Commission are proud to recognize February 2024 as Black History Month , honoring the many notable contributions that people of African descent have made to our country and our community .   Anesthesiologist , Dr . Esther Akindayomi , Physical Therapist Dr . Theresa Gatling , and CEO of Valley Grande Institute accepted the City of Weslaco’s Proclamation on behalf of the VIVA Organization - - a nonprofit whose mission is elevating and uniting the black community while connecting cultures in the Rio Grande Valley .
