HENDERSON , Nev . ( March 4 , 2024 ) – The City of Henderson announced it is the recipient of 200 automated external defibrillators ( AED ) from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services through grant funding by the Helmsley Charitable Trust . The AEDs will be placed in Henderson Police Department patrol vehicles and are used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest .  
   HPD officers , who often arrive first on scene , will be able to provide lifesaving actions with the use of the AED until paramedics arrive and help increase the cardiac survivability rate in Henderson . It is another tool to keep Henderson one of the safest cities in America .
   “Community Safety is a top strategic priority and these AEDs will help save lives and keep our residents safe when responding to a potential heart - related emergency , ” said City Manager Richard Derrick . “I’m grateful to the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and Helmsley Charitable Trust , for providing our officers another tool to serve our residents . ”  
   The 200 Stryker Lifepak CR2 defibrillators are valued at $2 , 000 each and have a lifespan of approximately eight years . Maintenance can be done remotely via Wi - Fi , which is more efficient and ensures each AED is in good working condition .
   The Helmsley Charitable Trust has granted funds to the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services to oversee the distribution of over 3 , 000 AEDs to law enforcement agencies and other first responders throughout Nevada , which includes training and support in their use . It is currently in a three - year project to get AEDs into as many get AEDs into as many law enforcement vehicles as possible to aid in cardiac arrest response .
