During the
May 24 , 2022 council meeting
, Longmont City Council approved several changes to the
Longmont Municipal Code
regarding public lands , facility and shelter reservations , and park hours . City Council adopted the following changes:
Camping:
The ordinance now defines camping as residing or dwelling temporarily in a place by using or erecting a shelter ( other than park provided shelters ) , temporary or otherwise , including a tent or any cover or protection from the elements besides the clothing a person is wearing , and conduct daily living activities including but not limited to eating or sleeping in such place . This does not include napping or picnicking for a period of time not to exceed two hours in one day when the public lands are available and open for use by the public . The use of sun shelters during park hours is allowed in parks where posted .
Facility and Shelter Reservations:
All shelters are on a first - come , first - serve basis except in the following circumstances where a reservation is required: an event with 15 or more people; uses longer than two hours , regardless of party size . For shelter reservation information ,

Neighborhood Park Hours:
In neighborhood parks , nature areas , greenways and dog parks , the hours of public use will change from one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset as those times are published by the National Weather Service , seven days a week . Lighted park facilities ( i . e . , basketball and tennis courts , skate parks , shelters , restrooms , etc . ) will remain open until 10 pm seven days a week . Continuous movement through the park on any designated sidewalk or trail is permitted .
The changes to these ordinances go into effect on June 4 , 2022 .
