Downtown Longmont is about to experience a tremendous transformation . Several public and private projects are starting soon , all with a goal of building a better , more vibrant City . These include:
Coffman Street Mobility Improvements:
An extensive Complete Street project on Coffman between will bring the best of multimodal transportation – including pedestrian , bicycle , transit , and automobile access – into the core of the City .
1st & Main Transit Station:
This hub will provide convenient access to northern Colorado , metro Denver and Boulder; connect to future rail; and bring additional parking , housing and working space to our community .
Hotel Longmont:A downtown boutique hotel has been in community plans for almost fifty years . In 2024 it will break ground . In 2025 it will bring 84 rooms , a rooftop restaurant and meeting space into Downtown Longmont .
Safety & Justice Center:
This building will see a complete rehabilitation , carrying out the 2018 voter - approved bond project .
In addition , private developers and private property owners are investing to rehab buildings and bring new restaurants and retail stores into the historic core of Longmont .
“After many years of proposals and planning we’re excited to see many Downtown Longmont projects break ground this year , ” said City Manager Harold Dominguez . “With massive transportation initiatives and several public and private developments , we are committed to investing in the future of Longmont’s historic downtown . ”

Updates on two of the projects , Coffman Street Mobility Improvements and Hotel Longmont , follow .
Coffman Street Mobility Improvements: Preconstruction Activity
The Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project is planned to start in May - June and will be completed in phases over approximately two years . As a crucial preparatory step , a planned tree removal initiative is scheduled to start the week of March 11 and conclude by the end of March . A gas line relocation by Xcel Energy will follow in early April and is expected to be completed by mid - May .
The project design , developed with input from Coffman Street businesses , property owners and the public , includes removing a limited number of trees to accommodate new transit lanes , separated bicycle lanes and improved pedestrian sidewalks . To offset the removals , the project will plant new trees , pay into the City’s Tree Mitigation Fund and feature water - smart planting areas on each block to enhance the greenery . Tree removal crews will be working in the area on Coffman Street between 6th Avenue and 9th Avenue from 7 a . m . to 5 p . m . Sidewalks and parking near the tree removals will be temporarily closed and pedestrians will need to detour around construction areas .
Xcel Energy crews will be working in the area on Coffman Street between 2nd Avenue to 8th Avenue from 7 a . m . to 5 p . m . Lane closures and traffic impacts are expected , although thru traffic and access to driveways will still be maintained . A schedule and additional information can be found on the project website at

Hotel Longmont: Preconstruction Activity
The 300 East Parking Lot , located at 300 Kimbark Street , is tentatively scheduled to close on the week of March 11 to begin work on Hotel Longmont . During construction , loading , unloading or drop off to businesses in the 300 East block of Main Street will be available via the alley . Parking is available in other City - owned lots , as well as The Spoke on Coffman parking garage , located on Coffman Street between 5th and 6th Avenues . ( Free public parking is available on levels 2 and 3 for two hours on weekdays with no time limits on evenings and weekends . ) For those that visit downtown often , parking permits are available for $10 per month at the Spoke .
