The highlight of the city’s annual “Spread the Love” food drive comes Feb . 25 as Commerce City police officers greet residents at local grocery stores and encourage residents to fill police cruisers with donations of peanut butter and jelly .
“Cram the Cruiser” places police officers and vehicles at both Commerce City King Soopers locations to collect food donations , interact with the community and give residents a look at working police vehicles and equipment .
WHAT:
Cram the Cruiser food drive event
WHEN:
Sunday , Feb . 25 , 9 a . m . – 1 p . m .
WHERE:
Commerce City King Soopers locations ( 4850 E . 62nd Ave . and 15051 E . 104th Ave . )
In addition to Sunday’s Cram the Cruiser event , donation boxes are set up at the following city facilities for the remainder of February:
Commerce City Civic Center , 7887 E . 60th Ave .
Bison Ridge Recreation Center , 13905 E . 112th Ave . Eagle Pointe Recreation Center , 6060 E . Parkway Dr .
Municipal Services Center , 8602 Rosemary St .
The period after the holiday season often finds food banks receiving fewer donations at a time when food is in high demand . Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are high in protein and easy for kids to make without adult supervision , making Spread the Love an ideal way to donate and help food banks bridge this seasonal gap .
