☷Burlington Man Sentenced in Federal Court on Bank Robbery Charge

In a more casual tone , the Office of the U . S . Attorney for the District of Vermont announced that Malik Pratt , a 26 - year - old from Burlington , Vermont , has been sentenced to 35 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release . This comes after Pratt pleaded guilty to robbing the People ' s United Bank branch in Burlington on March 1 , 2022 . As part of the sentence , Pratt is also required to pay restitution to the bank for the stolen amount . The incident occurred when Pratt threatened the bank employees with a gun and demanded cash before fleeing on foot , ultimately stealing $1 , 316 . After a joint investigation by the Burlington Police Department and federal agents , Pratt was identified and charged with bank robbery . U . S . Attorney Nikolas P . Kerest commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation . Assistant U . S . Attorney Paul Van de Graaf is the prosecutor , while Richard R . Goldsborough , Esq . represents Pratt . This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities . The Department has recently strengthened PSN with a new strategy focused on building trust , supporting community organizations , and setting enforcement priorities .
