The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s January 23 , 2024 , Board Meeting . Supervisor Phillip Peters ( District 1 ) , Supervisor Zack Scrivner ( District 2 ) , Supervisor Jeff Flores ( District 3 ) , Chairman David Couch ( District 4 ) , and Supervisor Leticia Perez ( District 5 ) were in attendance . Meeting Highlights:
Items No . 17 – 19 AM session:
The Board voted to use funding from the FY 2020 , FY 2021 , and FY 2022 , State Homeland Security Grant Programs to purchase Kern County Fire Department operational preparedness equipment , and transfer assets to other agencies as appropriate .
Item No . 23 AM session:
The Board approved the Kern County Library applying for and accepting the California Library Association’s Lunch at the Library Partner Project Grant Award to support the library’s community meal program “Supper and Snacks in the Stacks” throughout the school year .
This after - school program supports meals and nutritional services to children and youth in thirteen of our Kern County branches and engages low - income families with their local public library , a free community space that levels the playing field , values the individual , nourishes creativity , opens young minds , builds community , and supports families .
Item No . 20 PM session:
The Board voted to use funding from the Statewide Juvenile Realignment and ELEAS FY 2022 - 2023 Growth to improve probation facilities , equipment , and operations , as well as purchase handheld radios , cell phone readers , and body scanners , in addition to establishing a mid - year major maintenance project for security door upgrades and the addition of a generator at the Youth Detention Center .
Item No . 31 PM session:
The Board approved an agreement between the Kern County Fire Fighters Union – Civilian Unit and the County of Kern to provide changes to wages , hours , and terms and conditions of employment effective January 27 , 2024 , through June 30 , 2026 , to aid in recruitment and retention efforts at KCFD .
Item No . 33 PM session:
The Board approved salary range adjustments from 5 . 12% to 35 . 56% for Airport Police Officer I/II , Airport Operations and Security Manager and Airports Chief Operations Officer , effective January 27 , 2024 , to increase recruitment and retention efforts at Meadows Field Airport .
The next Regular Board Meetings are scheduled for February 6 , 2024 , at 9 a . m . and 2 p . m .
