Lamont Recall Status Update:

- Kern County Elections Division verified that there are not enough valid signatures to qualify for a recall petition .
Bakersfield , CA , December 19 , 2023
- On December 4th , petitions were received in the Kern County Elections Division for the recall of four ( 4 ) Lamont School Board members . Each petition must have 1150 valid signatures; signatures are verified and considered valid as per California Code of Regulations Section 20930 and 20931 .
The Elections Division is currently reviewing signatures . The Division has 30 days from the date the petition was submitted to verify signatures and anticipates it will be completed before the 30 days . If the petition has the required number of valid signatures , the school board will call an election . The election must be held within 88 - 125 days .
A determination that a recall petition has a sufficient number of valid signatures does not remove the officer sought to be recalled from office . If the petition is sufficient and an election is to be held , the voters of the district will vote on whether or not the officers should be recalled .
