   The U . S . Department of Transportation ' s Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) plans to give out $243 . 7 million in Airport Infrastructure Grants ( AIG ) in 2024 . These grants will go to airports in 37 states to update their infrastructure , enhance runway safety , and create jobs . U . S . Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said that with more people flying and the demand for air travel expected to grow , these investments will modernize the country ' s airports and ensure safe and efficient travel . The grants aim to address funding inconsistencies that have hindered the modernization of airport technology and infrastructure . The grants will help improve critical infrastructure in airports across the nation , making sure that passengers have a smooth and pleasant travel experience . Safety is a top priority , and some of the grants will be used to reduce the risk of runway accidents by reconfiguring taxiways , installing new lighting systems , and providing more flexibility on the airfield . Some examples of projects include constructing parallel taxiways , rehabilitating on - airport roadways , and enhancing runway safety areas . President Biden ' s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is making a significant investment in our nation ' s infrastructure and competitiveness by rebuilding roads , bridges , rails , public transit , ports , and airports . So far , the Administration has announced over $415 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding for over 46 , 000 infrastructure projects nationwide and has mobilized over $640 billion in private sector manufacturing and clean energy investments in the United States . Approximately $1 . 7 million will be used to construct or improve fuel farms at various airports , including Boone Municipal in Boone , Iowa; Oskaloosa Municipal in Oskaloosa , Iowa; Nebraska City Municipal in Nebraska City , Nebraska; Denison Municipal in Denison , Iowa; and Kanab Municipal in Kanab , Utah . Approximately $2 . 1 million will be used to acquire aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles at various airports , including Garden City Regional in Garden City , Kansas , and Rutland/Southern Vermont Regional in Vermont . Mansfield Municipal Airport in Massachusetts is getting $254 , 880 to acquire two easements for obstruction removal in the Runway 32 approach path . Westfield - Barnes Regional in Massachusetts will receive $531 , 000 to remove airport tree obstructions from the Runway 15 approach path . Knox County Regional in Rockland , Maine will use $38 , 151 to conduct an environmental assessment of the proposed easement acquisition and obstruction removal within the Runway 31 approach surface . This project will get rid of an airport vegetation obstruction from the Runway 13/31 approach and departure paths . Approximately $70 million will be used for terminal projects at 11 other airports , including North Big Horn County in Cowley , Wyoming , and Dexter Regional in Dexter , Maine . Other notable grants include: Dallas - Fort Worth International in Texas is receiving $45 million to rehabilitate 13 , 400 feet of Runway 17R/35L to maintain the pavement ' s structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris . Sitka Rocky Gutierrez in Alaska is getting $18 million to expand the existing terminal building by an additional 16 , 000 square feet to better accommodate current passengers . Ontario International in California will use $15 . 2 million to rehabilitate 10 , 200 feet of the existing Runway 8R/26L and reconstruct 668 feet of Taxiway S8 pavement to maintain the pavement ' s structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris . Des Moines International in Iowa is receiving $5 . 5 million to construct a new 295 , 000 square foot terminal building with six gates and related areas to increase passenger throughput and reduce delays .
