Today , the Department of Defense ( DoD ) announced that they ' re providing Ukraine with more security assistance to meet their urgent security and defense needs . This is the fifty - fourth batch of equipment that the Biden Administration is giving to Ukraine from DoD inventories since August 2021 . The package includes extra air defense capabilities , artillery ammo , anti - tank weapons , and other equipment to help Ukraine counter Russia ' s aggressive actions . This package is using assistance that was previously authorized for Ukraine in past fiscal years . The package , which is worth up to $250 million , includes additional munitions for the National Advanced Surface - to - Air Missile Systems ( NASAMS ) , Stinger anti - aircraft missiles , air defense system components , more ammo for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems ( HIMARS ) , artillery rounds , TOW missiles , Javelin and AT - 4 anti - armor systems , over 15 million rounds of small arms ammo , demolitions munitions for obstacle clearing , spare parts , medical equipment , maintenance , and other equipment . These capabilities will help Ukraine defend its sovereignty and independence . It ' s crucial for Congress to act promptly in the new year on the President ' s national security supplemental request to ensure that we can continue supporting Ukraine and they can defend themselves against Russia ' s ongoing attacks and build on their battlefield successes . This security assistance for Ukraine is not only a wise investment in our national security , but it also deters potential aggression elsewhere in the world and boosts our defense industry and job market . The support of our 50 allies and partners currently backing Ukraine is vital , and we must sustain it .
