Due to a surge in staff COVID cases at the Bob L . Burger Recreation Center ( BBRC ) , the facility will close beginning Friday , May 20 , at 6pm and will resume operations on Tuesday , May 24 .
With the support of Boulder County Public Health ( BCPH ) , and out of an abundance of caution and care for the community and staff , the facility will be closed to allow for the deep cleaning of all areas of the building . This closure will also allow for remaining staff to be tested and affected staff to recover from the illness . Because health and safety are of the City’s utmost priorities , this decision was made in order to protect both our staff and the community .
Increase in COVID cases in Boulder County
   On May 13 , BCPH
announced a shift in the community level of COVID from low to medium
per CDC guidelines . This shift indicates that the risk of COVID infection is increasing in the Boulder County area and enhanced prevention measures are recommended to keep people healthy and limit the strain on healthcare systems .
Preventing COVID spread and testing information
BBRC patrons who visited the facility within the last 5 days , and are interested in testing for COVID , may
pick up a free rapid test kit at the Lafayette Public Library
    or take advantage of other
   free testing resources through BCPH
. To learn more about general guidance for isolation and quarantine practices based on vaccination status , please visit the
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment ( CDPHE ) website
    .
Follow these steps from BCPH to
   stay safe during COVID

   Get yourself and your family
fully vaccinated and stay up to date
by getting boosted when eligible . Vaccines are safe , effective , and free for anyone aged 5+ , and they drastically reduce the chance of hospitalization and death .
Have a plan for testing – If you plan to be near someone at high risk for severe disease , hospitalization , or death , consider getting tested prior to gathering .
Increase airflow and ventilation – While indoors , use HEPA filters or increase ventilation and airflow by opening windows or increasing air circulation . Consider moving activities outdoors for the best protection .
Keep your loved ones and community safe by following BCPH recommendations for
   isolation and quarantine
, including getting tested if you are exposed to COVID - 19 or have symptoms of COVID - 19 .
Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds .
Consider wearing a well - fitting , medical - grade mask as an added layer of protection , especially when close to people at high risk for severe disease , hospitalization , and death or in settings that primarily serve individuals who are not up to date or at high risk for severe disease .
If you are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe disease:  talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask and take other precautions , and talk to your healthcare provider about whether you are a candidate for treatments like
   oral antivirals
