Tips for Driving Safely in Work Zones
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED - Normal speed limits may be reduced , traffic lanes may be changed , and people may be working on or near the road . )
SLOW DOWN - ( Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes . )
KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE BETWEEN YOUR VEHICLE AND THE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS AND THEIR EQUIPMENT .
STAY ALERT AND MINIMIZE DISTRACTIONS - Dedicate your full attention to the roadway and avoid changing radio stations or using cell phones while driving in a work zone .
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: February 19 - February 23
STAGE 2 Improvements: Second Street to Fourth Street
Work has begun on the block wall along the southside of Wilson Avenue between Second Street and Hill Street . Please note that pedestrian traffic will be rerouted along the north side of Wilson Avenue through early March . the north side of Wilson Avenue through early March .
Crews will continue excavation work on the east and west sides of Wilson Avenue between Third Street and Fourth Street .
Stormwater installation work will continue on Wilson Avenue between Second and Third Street .
TRAFFIC CHANGE NOW IF EFFECT:
Traffic light at Third Street and Wilson Avenue converted to a temporary stop sign during construction
The traffic signal at Third Street and Wilson Avenue has been temporarily replaced with a stop sign as part of the Wilson Avenue Corridor Project . For those traveling eastbound on Wilson Avenue at the Third Street intersection , the only option will be a right turn to go southbound on Third Street; there will be no left turn option to go northbound on Third Street . The removal of the signal places construction a month ahead of schedule , with completion expected in May .
The new traffic signal will enhance traffic flows and improve both driver and pedestrian safety .
Detour Map
The Wilson Avenue Corridor is a multi - phase modernization project that will improve safety and east - west connectivity for all users along Wilson Avenue from Second Street to 15th Street .
Waterline system upgrades are being constructed as part of the project to optimize synergy opportunities .
GENERAL PROJECT NOTES
Access to all area businesses along the construction area will be maintained .
Please do not enter the construction zone before , during , or after hours .
Daytime work hours are in effect from 7 a . m . – 6 p . m .
There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend . Travel safely .
