Whatcom County Inland Weather
No concerns are expected through Thursday , but winds will be pretty breezy at times late day Wednesday through Thursday . Light rain returns early to mid morning Wednesday with light rain continuing off and on through the rest of the day and Wednesday night . Rain breaks up into showers mid - morning Thursday with a few rain showers lingering the rest of the day . South southeast winds will be pretty breezy at times late day Wednesday , Wednesday night , and Thursday . Winds up to 35 mph are expected with strongest winds coming during the late morning/early afternoon hours Thursday .
A few rain showers linger at times Thursday evening , but steady light rain is expected at times overnight Thursday night . A few rain showers linger at times on Friday before steady light rain moves through at times Friday night and Saturday morning . Rain breaks up into showers midday Saturday with showers lingering at times through Saturday night and Sunday before conditions dry out . Snow levels fall down to 500 - 1 , 000 feet on Saturday night with showers possibly mixed with or falling as snow in spots overnight Saturday night/Sunday morning , mainly near Maple Falls and around the Samish Curves . Dry Sunday night with precipitation returning on Monday . Temperatures may be cold enough that all areas see a snow to rain transition during the day Monday . A snow to rain transition is looking likely around Maple Falls and northeast parts of the area near Sumas/Lynden , but the rest of the area may remain too warm for snow .

Holiday and Winter Preparedness
The holidays can be a time of celebration and winter activities can be fun and invigorating , but storms and cold weather can be dangerous . Stay safe and healthy by
planningahead .
Don’t leave lit candles unattended , make sure they are out before leaving the room .
Make sure you don’t overload electrical circuits with too many lights or space heaters .
Make sure you have cleaned your chimney this fall if you heat with wood .
Make sure you have working smoke detectors .
Have a snow shovel and ice - melting products to keep your walkways safe .
Avoid overexertion when shoveling snow and consider working with a partner .
Plan to check on loved ones and neighbors to make sure they are staying warm during stormy weather .
Travel only is absolutely necessary during stormy weather , travel during the daylight hours and let someone know your travel plans .
Have backup power if you have someone dependent on electric - powered , life - sustaining equipment .
Know where you will go if your home becomes too cold . You could go to a friend’s house , a public library , or a warming center
Be ready for power outages
Have a flashlight with fresh batteries
Keep containers of water available
Locate generators , grills , camp stoves or other gas , propane , natural gas or charcoal burning devices outside away from doors , window or vents
