The City of Fort Lauderdale is launching a Water Service Line Material Inventory in response to
   new regulations from the U . S . Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA )
    . This project aims to identify the materials used in water service lines to determine if they are made of lead or copper .
   Water service lines , which are the pipes connecting homes , businesses and other private properties to the City’s water distribution system , play a crucial role in delivering safe drinking water . These pipes are usually buried in the yard or in front of a structure and are located between the water main and building . The portion of the service line between the water main and meter box is part of the public water system and is maintained by the City of Fort Lauderdale , while the remainder of the service line between the meter box and the building is privately owned .
   Initial inspections are taking place on Saturday , February 24 , and Sunday , February 25 , 2024 , within the following neighborhoods:
   Bay Colony
   Coral Ridge
   Coral Ridge Country Club Estates
   Downtown Fort Lauderdale
   Edgewood
   Harbor Beach
   Idlewyld
   Imperial Point
   Lake Estates
   Landings
   Las Olas Isles
   Rio Vista
   Riverside Park
   Riviera Isles
   Sunrise Intracoastal
   Tarpon River
   Victoria Park
   These initial inspections will guide the City and its contractor as they develop a plan for expanding water service line inspections across the city this spring . Final inspection results will be shared at the conclusion of the City’s Water Service Line Material Inventory this fall .
   Neighborhood Impacts
   During the inspections , neighbors may see utility crews working near their water meter boxes .
   Water service will not be interrupted during inspections .
   Limited lane closures are expected as crews will be working primarily within the shoulder of neighborhood streets .
   Access to driveways will be maintained .
   Please follow posted signs and drive with caution in the area .
