Water Plant Operator/Trainee –
The City of Radford is seeking a Water Plant Operator Trainee. The successful candidate performs responsible semiskilled work training in the operation of a water treatment plant; work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Chief Water Plant Operator. Collects samples for testing; performs tests relating to plant operations, makes inspection of plant and equipment to ascertain that it is in proper operation at all times, performs minor plant maintenance, housekeeping, and grounds maintenance duties and checks all plant equipment and biological and chemical systems for proper operation and takes necessary corrective action and other related work as required. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by some knowledge of water treatment plant principles and operating practices including but not limited to maintenance, ability to use appropriate software packages, ability to detect flaws and determine remedial measures and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils. Possession of or must acquire a Class IV Water Treatment Operator’s license within six months of appointment and must maintain license by acquiring required continuing education credits. Successful completion of pre-employment testing and background screening a must. Salary: DOQ plus excellent benefit package that includes VRS enrollment and 100% employer paid insurance for employee.
