   In the past month , two men have died on the Pajaro River levee due to suspected opioid overdoses . The Santa Cruz County Coroner’s Office is still waiting on a toxicology report to determine the final cause of death . However , our preliminary investigation indicates both cases were opioid overdoses .    
   In the following Public Service Announcement , WPD Officers in two separate incidents administered Narcan , helping the individuals survive an overdose . We cannot stress enough the importance of calling 9 - 1 - 1 in these life - or - death situations . Seconds matter , and our Officers are trained and equipped to do everything they can to help save lives .   
   Our department also works closely with our partners at the Santa Cruz County Anti - Crime Team to investigate illegal drug sales and other related cases .
