Under general supervision, performs duties within the Water Operations Division to include installing, maintaining, and repairing water services, valves, mains, hydrants, and meters. Incumbents in this classification may also assist in producing, treating, and distributing portable water throughout the City's water system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Grade I Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) AND one year of experience in Water Operations. Must at time of application and maintain a valid Class B California Driver's License.
Knowledge of water quality and safety compliance codes and guidelines, occupational hazards and safety precautions, applicable City, county, state, and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, and regulations governing water treatment and production.
Skilled in providing technical guidance to crew members, working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments, following oral and written instructions, use of power tools to perform essential duties, and establishing and maintaining productive working relationships;
Ability to: exercise sound judgment in performing duties, work with a team and independently to complete tasks; effectively communicate in writing and verbally to customers and supervisors, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, and respond to call-outs and other emergencies within a 30-minute time frame,
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Work may require frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting to 50 pounds; May be exposed to repetitive motion, extreme temperatures and weather, moving traffic, areas under construction, hazardous fumes and chemicals, and infectious diseases. Incumbents must be available for standby, on-call, and mandatory overtime assignments to include weekends and holidays.
