The Virginia Mortgage Relief Program ( VRMP ) helps homeowners experiencing pandemic - related financial hardship and need assistance . Financial hardship can be due to job loss/business closure , reduction in hours or pay , difficultyobtaining new employment , death of a spouse or co - borrower , or increased expenses due to the pandemic . Increased expenses could be due to health care , the need to care for a family member , increased childcare costs due to school closures , or increased costs associated with quarantine .
   If you answer yes to ANY of the questions below , you may be eligible .   
   Do you own a primary residence in Virginia?
   Have you experienced a pandemic - related financial hardship?
   Are you behind on your mortgage payments or other qualified housing - related expenses?
   Do you owe less than $50 , 000 in mortgage arrears and/or other qualified housing expenses?
   Homeowners needing assistance , and who meet the program criteria , are encouraged to apply as quickly as possible as funding is limited . Eligible applications will be processed on a first - come , first - served basis after VMRP reviews and confirms eligibility , with applicants at risk of foreclosure taking priority .  
   Applicants with questions can VMRP Call Center at 833 - OUR - VMRP ( 833 - 687 - 8677 ) , Monday through Friday from 8 a . m . to 8 p . m . ET .   Applications can be submitted online or through the VMRP Call Center .
