St . Joseph’s Church , The United Tastes of America , and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Ascension present Village to Village: a Maplewood Village Fair Supporting Ukraine . The event will take place at St . Joseph’s Church ( 767 Prospect Street ) on Sunday , June 5 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm . Proceeds will support the grassroots relief efforts of our Ukrainian neighbors here in New Jersey to support two communities in Ukraine to whom they are directly connected .
St . Joseph’s Parish in Maplewood , which has offered solidarity and ......support for Ukraine since the outbreak of war , will host the Village Fair . “We often time think our neighbors are right next door . Sometimes they are but many times they are far away . Here our neighbors are in need right here in Maplewood . So are the people of Ukraine . ” says St . Joseph’s Pastor , Father James Worth .
At this event , neighbors can come together to:
Eat pierogis , drink Ukrainian craft beer , enjoy live music , and buy homemade Ukrainian baked goods and crafts .
Hear a special concert from 4:00pm to 5:00pm featuring Schwäbischer Sängerbund , a 136 - year - old German choir based in Clark , NJ who will be joined by Ukrainian folk musicians .
Enjoy raft beer from Shrewd Fox Brewery , a Ukrainian - owned craft brewery based in Eldred , NY .
Funds will directly support humanitarian efforts , especially medicine and shelter , in the Ukrainian cities of Stryy and Chernihiv .
( Western Ukraine ) , near Lviv and the Polish border , is the hometown of Holy Ascension’s Father Sviatoslav Hot . Stryy is a central distribution point for aid to war - torn Eastern Ukraine . Fr . Hot has direct contact with a local church in Stryy that has moved supplies quickly to people in the East . Stryy is also hosting a surge of refugees and needs funds for shelter .
( Eastern Ukraine ) , near the Russian border , repelled a Russian military onslaught earlier this spring . Russian forces heavily damaged the City’s center , educational and health facilities . Chernihiv is the hometown of Holy Ascension congregant , Olena Kondryshyn who coordinates ongoing relief . “In the first week I was paralyzed . I was on the phone with my relatives who were trying to escape from Chernihiv . There was bombing and so much stress . Then I decided that this fear will not help . We need to do something right now . We are far away , but we are together in this war . This is how we can fight . ”
Father Hot has translated messages of support from Maplewood/South Orange residents to his friends and family in Ukraine . “People in Ukraine appreciate the help and efforts of this hardworking town . It is important to know that there are such kind people . ” “We are all in this war together . And I believe that together we can help good win against evil , ” say Olena .
